When it comes down to it, vaping has made a lot of changes in the UK and beyond in the last few years. Here’s what we’ve learnt.
Vaping has seen one of the most seismic shifts in the world occur when it comes to our outlook on health and nicotine. Whilst smoking has been steadily decreasing for years, since it was proven decades ago that it is bad for your health, vaping has only really taken the nicotine baton in the last ten years. This is not a lot of time when you think about it, and understanding the repercussions on society a year on is a great way to see just how much it has benefited our health, both nationally and internationally.
A whole new community
With the rise of vape juice, a whole new community has formed. Over the past decade we have seen an evolution of the vape device, and whilst the technology has grown, so has our understanding of how to use it. With a whole new third generation of devices about to give way to a fourth, the vape community has expanded to include sub ohm cloud chasing competitions as well as a whole new DIY vape subculture.
New research into nicotine
Due to the rise in vaping, new research and debate into the uses and benefits of nicotine have arisen. With e juice often containing nicotine, there has been a real shift in perceptions on nicotine, especially when it comes to what is really harmful in tobacco smoke. Whilst nicotine can increase the heart rate and is highly addictive, it is not a carcinogen, and many new vape e liquid companies have begun to find more efficient uses of nicotine in their products.
Vaping is now a multimillion industry
And from vape juice to the companies that make them, we have now seen an explosion of independent vape shops open up all around the world. Whilst major companies have also invested in the technology, vaping is still a space for independent companies who make the most of their local culture and art scene, often finding online platforms to sell their wares across the globe.
House fires and smoking related diseases are decreasing
One crucial aspect to vapings rise, is that it has been proven to be 98 percent less dangerous than smoking, and has had the likes of Cancer Research UK, the Stoptober Campaign and even the fire services begin to back it. With tobacco smoking causing cancer and even housefires, it’s no wonder that the last few years has seen vaping be endorsed by more and more influential powers across the globe.
Even smoking companies are taking a good look in the mirror
Last year saw vaping being embraced by the likes of Phillip Morris, one of the largest tobacco conglomerates in the world. The very fact that they have understood that smoking is on the decline and vaping is on the rise goes to show just how far the smoking cessation device has come.
