It is a fair question and it deserves a straight answer rather than a sales pitch. Here is what nicotine free vaping actually does, what it does not do, and who it genuinely works for.

What 0mg keeps

More than people expect, because nicotine was never the whole of the habit.

Think about what you are actually doing when you reach for a vape. There is the hand to mouth movement, the draw, the vapour, the flavour, the pause it gives you, the thing to do with your hands when you step outside. For a lot of vapers — particularly ex smokers — that ritual is doing most of the work. Strip the nicotine out and all of it is still there.

That is why 0mg tends to succeed for people who have already brought their strength down. By the time you are at 10mg and considering the last step, the nicotine is a smaller part of what you are getting than the routine is.

What 0mg loses

Throat hit, mostly, and it is worth knowing before you buy rather than after.

Nicotine provides most of the catch at the back of your throat. Take it out and the draw is noticeably smoother — and a lot of people read smoother as weaker, then conclude the pod is faulty or the flavour is thin when neither is true. It is doing exactly what it should, it just feels different.

Who it does not work for

If you are a current smoker looking to switch, 0mg is almost certainly the wrong starting point. How to step down properly

The path that works for most people is 20mg, then 10mg, then 0mg, with two to four weeks at each stage. There is no prize for rushing, and moving too fast is the single most common reason a step down fails.

One thing to expect: as the strength drops you will usually vape more, not less. That is your body chasing what it was getting before, and it settles within a week or so. If it has not settled after two weeks, you moved down too early — go back up a rung and try again in a fortnight. That is not a failure, it is how the process is meant to work.

It also helps enormously to keep everything else constant. Same device, same flavour, same pod format, one variable changing at a time. If you switch device and strength and flavour together and it goes badly, you will have no idea which of the three was the problem.

Is nicotine free vaping harmless?

You are still inhaling a heated aerosol, and the honest position — the one the NHS takes — is that vaping is substantially less harmful than smoking but is not risk free, and that people who do not smoke should not take it up.
