Everything You Need To Know About Vaping

Vaping is sweeping the world as the ultimate smoking alternative. With more than 9 million people regularly vaping, the vaping industry is set to reach over 3 billion dollars by 2021 it’s no surprise that more and more people are turning to it as a great alternative for smoking. On top of this, vaping is at least 95% less harmful than tobacco, because you’re getting no fire based smoke and due to the hundreds less chemicals in vape juice compared to tobacco. It’s no wonder then that more and more people are heading to their nearest vape shop. If you’re new to the concept, then you can find the basic ins and outs of the hobby outlined below.

History of vape technology

The original concept of inhaling vapour was created in 1963. Patented by Herbert A Gilbert, his flavoured water vapour heating device did not incorporate nicotine and was mostly overlooked since smoking was still popular. In 2003, using a similar design to Gilbert, Hon Lik, a Chinese pharmacist came up with the idea for the smoking alternative after his father died of lung cancer. This design became the basis for modern day e-cigarettes and has continued to grow since its creation by Hon Lik. After it was patented, the e-cigarette entered the European and US market in 2006 and Lik’s company, Golden Dragon Holdings registered for a patent which would cover the entire world. After this, the device began to evolve, the first-generation dissatisfying customers before it’s continuous revamping. Nowadays there are countless types of e-cigarettes on the market which cover a range of different designs.

How it works

But how does the everyday e-cigarette actually work? It’s not as complicated as you think. E-cigarettes are made up of an atomiser, a battery, an e-juice cartridge and a mouthpiece. The atomiser connects the battery to the e-juice cartridge and the coil, which sits between the battery and the atomiser sends an electric charge between the two. This electric charge heats up the atomiser which, due to being connected to the e-liquid, heats that up as well, creating the water vapour and flavourings. This vapour is then smoked through the mouthpiece.

The e-liquid itself is made up of a mix of three main ingredients. That is Propylene glycol, which gives the e-liquid its viscosity, vegetable glycerine, in which the flavourings are mixed, and nicotine. These three ingredients are used in varying measurements to make different forms of e-liquid.

Different Vape devices

There are many variations of vape devices so it’s a good idea to get to know the basic types before you invest. Everybody has different tastes, different needs for nicotine and different styles in terms of what they find aesthetically pleasing. One type of vape is the vape pen. These are the smallest vaporisers and are the ones that resemble real cigarettes. The easiest to carry but with a milder hit, these devices are there for those looking to find a smoking alternative rather than a hobby. The portable vape devices are slightly large, whilst larger devices are made for home use.
